Opinions on "Book" Authors

There are so many people (me included) that think its really hard to write anything. Everybody says "its so hard to do my language arts homework" because they think they cant write. Actually you can. You just don't put the effort in to trying. Miss Cohen's students have written 2 page stories on random events that we feel explain us. As Merriam-Webster online defines, an author is " a person who has written something". I wonder how many people consider themselves authors and I feel like more people should consider themselves authors. I know everyone in Miss Cohen's classes should consider themselves authors because we've all written our narratives.

Reading Skills 9/25/13

Right now, I am on Chapter Six of Andrew Smith's book Winger. Ryan Dean West, a rugby player, just started his junior year at his school called Pine Mountain... at age 14. His best girl friend (and crush), Annie, is a mile away from him and that's what really tears him apart. He got stuck in O-Hall, the dorm for the bad kids and rule breakers, because he hacked a teacher's phone account to make free, untraceable calls. He got put in a room with the biggest guy on the rugby team, Chas Becker. I really wonder if Ryan Dean will survive through the school year. I think he will make it, but it will be a tough journey for the next 9 months. Since Ryan Dean had to go to a dorm where he doesn't have friends I can relate because there have been so many times where i'm in a place that I don't want to be in, with no one I know. I read a book called The Perks of Being a Wallflower By: Steven Chbosky and its like my book because they both don't like where they are and they both have a crush on girls they have no chance with.

Here are 2 websites to give you a better overview on both books.

9/15/2013 Perfect Book Summary

This link is the Teen Library's amazing book summary. It tells exactly what is happening and is so detailed and so perfect I had to post it. It even includes quotes from the book.

9/15/13 Book Reccomendation

I really want to recommend the book The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. This was a great book and was very relatable with anyone who is in High School. The book is about how the narrator, Charlie, writes about various life experiences to someone he's never met, someone who he believes is a "good listener". He really needed someone to listen to him and he felt that writing to someone was a good way to help himself. Charlie, a freshman, ends up meeting a senior who befriended him. His name was Patrick. Charlie was quickly introduced to his step-sister, Sam. Charlie fell madly in love with Sam but kept his emotions to himself. Since no one knew about his feelings for Sam he ended up dating a Junior named Mary Elizabeth... And I don't want to be a spoiler, so I'll let YOU find out the rest. (:

This is the book cover for winger. It makes the readers wonder about why the boy in the picture has a black eye and bloody nose so they will pick up a copy of one of Andrew Smith's amazing novels.
